We had to wake up at 3:00 am to catch an international flight at 5:50 am. It turns out that the officials at the Cairns airport/security are a bit more relaxed at check-in times so we could have arrived only an hour before departure rather than two.
We had a 2 hr. 10 min. flight to Brisbane, a 55 min. layover and then a 4 hr. flight to Auckland; we arrived at 3:20 pm. After getting our luggage and cabbing it to our hotel, this leg of the trip had become a full day project.
We took a walk onto the main drag in search of a place for dinner. Neither Alice or I had remembered to bring our cameras. I guess we just both assumed the other one had it. Regardless, we wil be back and will take pictures then.We found a cafe that had a balcony outside overlooking the street. Alice and Bruce loved the food; I thought it was OK. We all agreed that the service was horrible.
We walked back to the hotel and called it an night.
